Cornish President Receives Mayor's Arts Award

Sergei Tschernisch, president of Cornish College of the Arts, will be one of six recipients of the 2010 Seattle Mayor's Arts Awards. The awards are intended to shine a spotlight on the value of art and culture in our community and underscore the arts as vital to our quality of life in Seattle.

Tschernisch, who will retire next year, is being recognized for orchestrating a renaissance at Cornish. Under his leadership, the school has balanced budgets, increased admissions, witnessed key faculty and staff appointments and added new programs. The transformations are most dramatically apparent with the relocation and expansion of the campus from Capitol Hill to the Denny Triangle/South Lake Union area in downtown Seattle.
