The long run

Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure

The Susan G. Komen Portland Race for the Cure is the third largest of its series in the world, making it a vital source of revenue for the grants that provide free breast screenings and early detection education for low-income and minority women throughout Oregon and Southwest Washington.

Since 2005, Pyramid has helped Komen Oregon with communication strategies to drive Race participation and fundraising. We've also led media relations efforts both before and on race day, resulting in a yearly average of 125 TV, radio and newspaper stories across the region.

Komen's message in 2009 was simple: If everyone in the race raised just $77, every low-income woman in Oregon and Southwest Washington who needs a mammogram could receive one. With the help of our outreach efforts, the 2009 Portland Race for the Cure brought over 43,000 participants and raised more than $2.4 million. Seventy-five percent of these funds will provide local communities with life-saving breast cancer support services and ongoing breast health education. The Portland Race continues to be an overwhelming testament to the world's largest and most progressive grassroots network of breast cancer survivors.
